A team of specialists from the BaraBooka Children’s Reading Laboratory of the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and expert educators and psychologists from the “Smart Osvita” NGO voted to select 40 books for the third thematic guide for parents and educators.
All Ukrainian books written by contemporary authors on war were collected, and the experts voted in a closed session to select the manuscripts. The upcoming third thematic guide will include books that scored 4 or more points (on a 5-point rating scale).

In addition to the manual, the project will also result in a series of webinars for parents and educators and video and text materials under the tag #howtotalktochildrenaboutwar.
The first two thematic manuals were created by the “Smart Osvita” NGO in cooperation with BaraBooka, the Ukrainian Book Institute, and the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2019 and 2021; they are publicly available on the Alive Writers website.
