We successfully completed the third iteration of the «Chests for Shelter» project and sent 72 sets of things to de-occupied, frontline, and destroyed and rebuilt schools. In November, during the second part of this iteration, the «Smart Osvita» team collected and sent 36 «Chests for Shelter», which had already arrived at their recipients.
One chest weighs about 100 kg, and the total weight of useful items is 3.6 tons. It contains power banks, books, anti-stress toys, blankets, lamps, and coloring pages. In addition to the standard components, as in the previous shipment, there are 100 sets for creativity (light plasticine) and 100 anti-stress balls from the OKTO Charity Foundation in honor of Ninel Liebman. This iteration involved schools from Chernihiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, and Dnipro regions.
36 chests from the first part of this iteration were sent to schools in September. Teachers and children were satisfied with their contents and invented their original ways to use them.
Throughout the project, we have already sent 121 chests weighing about 9 tons! We also seek opportunities to provide more chests to schools and other educational institutions.
«Due to the transition to remote learning, many schools could not receive the «Chests for Shelter» because the shelter must be operational under the terms of the project. The situation in the country is unpredictable and changing rapidly. Imagine that yesterday we sent a Сhest to the school, today the school could close, and tomorrow, unfortunately, the village might be evacuated.
The chests should be in the shelters where they are most needed, used during air raids, and help children cope with stress.
We also keep in touch with the participants after the project is completed. We enjoy new photos or videos from the shelters and hope the children feel safe and comfortable. We receive a lot of positive feedback. Teachers thank us the most for the anti-stress toys, books, and games created by Svitlana Royz», says Kateryna Ivanova, manager of the «Chest for Shelter» project.
We are incredibly grateful to all our partners and people involved in our project. To help the project continue to develop, you can support «Chests for Shelter» on the Global Giving platform.
We thank Svitlana Royz for developing the chests’ unique content and the Ukrainian children’s Ukrainian book initiative ‘Barabooka’ for a selection of incredible books for students.
The sets of air plasticine and anti-stress toys were generously provided by the OKTO CHARITY FOUNDATION IN HONOR OF NINEL LIEBMAN.
The humanitarian program is delivered by «Nova Post» LLC.
This project is implemented in cooperation with Childfund Deutschland and EDUCO and is funded by Sternstunden.
