The project is implemented by the “Smart Osvita” NGO supported by Theirworld as part of the “School, we are together!” initiative launched by the Ministry of Education and Science.
The project was designed to enable Ukrainian temporary relocated abroad students of grades 5-11 to keep in touch with Ukraine and the education system. Students will receive basic knowledge of the three subjects of the Ukrainian component, which are not possible to study abroad. The program aims to simplify children’s return to learning in Ukrainian schools.
The main goal of “Stay with Ukraine” is to preserve children’s connection with their native language and culture. Teachers move away from formal education and use the latest methods. In particular, this is due to the utterly remote format of work and the children’s stay in stressful conditions because leaving home is not always easy. Lessons in the Ukrainian language, literature, and history allow schoolchildren to feel at home, even briefly, and give them hope that when they return to their native schools, they will not fall behind in the program.
The students had four tests, which it was optional to pass.
In the last year of the main lessons, there were also creative activities: Day of Dignity, Christmas and New Year celebrations in other countries, familiarization with the calendar and ceremonial traditions of Ukrainians, and celebration of Vyshyvanka Day. The children willingly participated in each of them: they made crafts, painted eggs, and baked spring ritual cookies —” larks,” sent their beautiful photos in embroidered shirts.
During the 2022-2023 years, the “Stay with Ukraine” project covered the following:
- more than 1,320 children
- 7,080 classes
- 74 study groups
- 49 teachers
- more than 20 countries, including Germany, Poland, The United Kingdom, The Czech Republic, France, Hungary, The USA, Canada, Slovakia, Romania, Moldova, Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland), Benelux countries (Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg), Baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia), Bulgaria and others.
For the 2022-2023 academic year, Smart Osvita received a lot of feedback from participants and their parents. So, for example, Svitlana Basova, Olesy Skrypnyk mom`s, shares the results of her son’s studies:
“Yesterday, we received the report card. She promised to share Olesya’s grades from the subjects he took together with the “Smart Osvita” NGO.
