In Okhtyrka — a city in the Sumy region, just 30 km from the russian border — school life often happens underground. Constant air raids and the threat of shelling force students and teachers to spend hours in shelters.
But even there, among concrete walls, there is a place for care, support, and childhood.
One of our “Chests in the Shelter” found its home in the Antonenko-Davydovych Lyceum in Okhtyrka. And the school community made the most of it — with love, creativity, and thoughtfulness.

Books from the Chest became part of a specially created reading corner in the library — a cozy island where children come to read, discover, and dream.
Games and materials were carefully placed in the shelter — organized by age, so every child could find something engaging during long hours underground.

This is exactly what our project is about — not just delivering things but creating opportunities for joy, learning, and emotional safety for children living through war.
Today, every donation you make to our project will receive 50% matched on GlobalGiving.
It means we can bring more “Chests in the Shelter” to more schools in Ukraine — and create more spaces like this.
Behind every photo — real stories.
In the photos and videos we share below, you will see more than just books, toys, or children’s smiles.

You will see the result of teamwork, care, and love — of a school community doing everything they can to support their students. And of kind people like you, who help make it possible.Thank you for being part of this story.
Together, we create more than just shelters — we create spaces of life and childhood.
