The NGO “Smart Osvita” and CRDF Global in Ukraine recently presented the course “Basics of cyber security for Schoolchildren”. It is a great source of knowledge for students and an effective tool for teachers.
It has three registration options: student, teacher, and parents. From the “Teacher” or “Parent” access level, you can complete the course and see assignments for all classes. From the “Student” access level, only tasks for the selected age category are opened. There are separate notes for parents, written by psychologist Svitlana Roiz, which explain why it is vital for children to learn cyber security.
A certificate is issued at the end of the course.
The interface for each age was developed, taking into account the specifics. The recommendations of the family and child psychology of Svetlana Roiz were taken into account during development. For example, the guide for grades 1-4 will be the character Smarty. A different approach was chosen for older children. Therefore, they are no longer interested in characters from the virtual world, but role models are primarily peers and adults familiar with the most similar situations.
Methodical manuals contain a lot of helpful information for conducting classes. For example, for grades 1-4, you will find exciting games and tasks – how to use lines with a poem to develop a reliable password or a puzzle to help you figure out the name of the guiding character.
These manuals are very helpful for the computer science teacher. They have the course of the lesson, detailed minute-by-minute, additional tasks, and references to useful resources. You can already use ready-made material or combine it.
The course also contains relevant legal information. Today’s teenagers are often looking for a part-time job in order to have financial independence from their parents. And then, the search takes place over the network, so they are vulnerable to Internet fraudsters. The course covers the basics of labor law and focuses on the employment of minors.
The course is very important in today’s world. After all, fraudsters and ill-wishers always take advantage of ignorance. Therefore, it is necessary that children know the basics of cyber security from an early age and do not allow themselves to be misled.
You can find methodical manuals and the course on our website.
The course was developed by CRDF Global in Ukraine in cooperation with the NGO “Smart Education” and technical experts of the Technomatix company, with the support of the US State Department (Office for the Coordination of Aid to Europe and Eurasia)
