Scientists prove that up to age 12, a person’s speech changes quite quickly under the influence of the environment. A child who enters a foreign language environment at nine can completely forget his native language. And even adults begin to lose communication skills over time because the basis of mastering a language is its everyday use.
The war forced many to seek refuge abroad. Among them are ten-year-old Maksym and his mother, Anastasia. They are currently in London. Maksym is a participant in the project “Stay with Ukraine.” He goes to a London school, takes extra classes in English, and has already gotten used to the new environment quite well. But the boy also finds time to attend classes that remind him of Ukraine.
Knowing many languages is excellent. However, it is essential to have a thread that connects the child with his native land, its language, and culture and does not let him forget who he is and where he is from.
Creating this project, we sought not only to show the importance of maintaining a connection with Ukraine for those currently abroad. “Stay with Ukraine” is a community of people who want to change the educational sphere because the lion’s share of personality formation occurs precisely through education.
In the video, you can see Natalia, a teacher who works on the project after her primary job. Despite the fatigue, despite the lights being turned off, with candles and flashlights, this is how our teachers conducted their classes this winter. And also Katya Kostenko, our project manager. She is one of those on whose shoulders this project rests.
But many more people are outside the video, but their role is also essential. This is our community of like-minded people: the “Smart Osvita” team, motivated educators, our partners, children’s families, and everyone who wants to improve and is ready to work for it.
